[:en]Water for all/ No exceptions is the title of World Water Day Photo Contest 2019, a photo contest organized by Lions Club Seregno Aid: funds of this edition, together with those of the former 2 editions, will support projects to bring drinking water to communities who need water to live, through an international cooperation project for water purification in Kenya. I have been invited to be part of the jury ion this contest.
World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was recommended. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day and it has been held annually since then.
Georgina Goodwin, with No Water No Life, a portrait of Amina Suleiman in Somaliland, is the winner of the single themed category, an image that synthesized the terrible drought that hit this area where 80% of the livestock is died and population is on the brink of an unprecedented collapse.
Karla Koegelmann is the winner of the Portfolio category, with the series The Pool focused on synchronized swimming.
Congratulations to all organizers, winners and participants, to be part of this wonderful project which aims to raise awareness and support those in real need of help!
The winning photos and a selection of the best classified will be exhibited at Seregno’s Auditorium and other locations through the year.

[:it]Acqua per tutti / Nessuno escluso è il titolo del World Water Day Photo Contest 2019, un concorso fotografico organizzato dal Lions Club di Seregno Aid, i cui proventi sono destinati alla fornitura di sistemi di potabilizzazione per lo comunità bisognose di acqua per la vita, e in cui sono stata invitata a far parte della giuria.
I fondi raccolti con la terza edizione in aggiunta a quelli delle prime due edizioni saranno devoluti ad un progetto di cooperazione internazionale per la potabilizzazione dell’acqua in Kenya.
La giornata mondiale dell’acqua “World Water Day” è una ricorrenza istituita dalle Nazioni Unite nel 1992, prevista all’interno delle direttive dell’Agenda 21, risultato della Conferenza di Rio. Cade regolarmente ogni 22 marzo.
Georgina Goodwin, con No Water No Life, un ritratto di Amina Suleiman in Somaliland, ha vito il primo premio della categoria foto singola, con un’immagine che sintetizza la gravissima siccità che ha colpito questa zona dove l’80% del bestiame è morto e la popolazione è sull’orlo di una crisi senza precedenti.
Karla Koegelmann ha vinto la categoria Portfolio, con la serie The Pool dedicata al nuoto sincronizzato.
Complimenti agli organizzatori, ai vincitori e a tutti partecipanti per aver preso parte a questo bellissimo progetto di sensibilizzazione e sostegno di coloro che hanno davvero bisogno di aiuto!

Help Children See for LongerProceeds from the Eyes on The Future Gala Dinner 2018 will help us support indispensable research into Leber Congenital Amaurosis, a severe form of inherited eye disease causing blindness in children. LCA affects thousands in the UK and hundreds of thousands worldwide. There is currently NO cure. “Imagine being told that in a few years you will not be able to meet the eyes of your loved ones or admire a beautiful red sunset over the sea.
Vicky is four and she is slowly going blind. She has been diagnosed with Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) a severe form of degenerative eye disease progressively leading children to blindness by their late teens /early twenties.
We aim to raise £350,000 to fund a three year research project to develop LCA eye condition models from patients own stem cells for testing therapies to potentially slow down the progression of the condition. The project is supported by a partnership between University College London’s Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital and led by Dr Mariya Moosajee, leading consultant ophthalmologist and researcher”
There is real hope that we could save Vicky’s sight and that of many other children.

Help Children See for LongerProceeds from the Eyes on The Future Gala Dinner 2018 aiutaci a sostenere l’indispensabile ricerca contro la Leber Congenital Amaurosis, una rara forma di malattia ereditaria degli occhi che causa la cecità nei bambini. LCA colpisce migliaia nel Regno Unito e e centinaio di migliaia nel mondo, Attualmente questa malattia non ha cure. Il tuo supporto ci aiuterà a finanziare un programma d ricerca di tre anni per rallentare il progredire della malattia e aiutare i bambini a vedere per più tempo.
“Immaginate che vi sia detto che in pochi nannie non potrete più incrociare lo sguardo con i vostri amati o che non potranno ammirare un meraviglioso tramonto rosso sula mare. Vicky ha quattro anni e sta progressivamente divenendo cieca. [:en]3 of my photos will be exhibited alongside the route at this inaugural edition of a new, outdoor photo festival in Overpelt, Belgium, titled this year Lens op de Mens (Spotlight on the people) opening today.
The main exhibition consists of a 2.5km walk during which you will discover more than 200 pictures made by photographers from all corners of the world.
The festival will run from June 18 till August 31.
Up until the 20 of August you can vote for your favourite photo of the route. The public price / Public Audience Mention will be announced on Sunday the 27 of August during the event “Vlaanderen zingt” (Flanders Sings) taking place in the town square of Overpelt, Oude Markt 2, 3900 Overpelt (Belgium)

I show at THE OTHER ART FAIR LONDON @Victoria House Bloomsbury from March 30 to April 2nd.
Out of over 1000 applications, my work has been selected by a very prestigious committee of art industry experts: Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator and Director, Art Advisory at Saatchi Art and formerly a Director at the Saatchi Gallery, London; Kate Bryan, an arts broadcaster, writing and presenting television programmes for BBC, Sky Arts and Sky Arte Italia; Lulu Guinness, a luxury British accessory brand founded in 1989, when its then 29 year old creative director and founder produced a forward-thinking briefcase for women.
It is with great pleasure that I’ll be part of this great exhibition!
The sixteenth edition of the fair will return to the magnificent Victoria House, a prestigious venue in the heart of Bloomsbury. The 2016 spring edition at Victoria House welcomed 14,000 visitors, so please if you want to attend write me in advance for tickets.

An Arts Council intitative, Own Art is a scheme that makes buying contemporary art more accessible for collectors and first time buyers. Own Art offers customers the opportunity to spread the cost of eligible purchases over 10 months with an interest free loan subsided by Arts Council England.
All artists exhibiting at the fair are automatically eligible to use the Own Art Scheme to sell their work.

“First and foremost, photography is a medium – a means of communicating observations, conveying experiences, and connecting; both with others, and with the world around us. In an age when there is often concern that digital technologies are in fact distancing us from reality, and disconnecting us from one another, it is remarkable to see precisely how powerful the medium of photography can be in terms of transcending the virtual. Because it is both common and fundamentally dependent upon the real – upon time, light, and physical matter – even at its most experimental, photography allows us a uniquely compelling opportunity to directly engage, empathize, transmit, translate, and reflect upon the multifaceted nature of the human experience, in all of its diversity and complexity.
The sequence and selection of images presented here, chosen from an impressively wide range of submissions made to LensCulture, represents many ways in which we connect – physically, emotionally, genetically, culturally, technologically, spiritually, and otherwise – to one another via the photographic medium. Furthermore, when seen collectively, what is truly remarkable is that these connections are not only made between the subjects themselves as they interact before the camera, or between the photographer and their subject matter as the photograph is made, but are able to reach beyond both the captured moment and photographic act itself, and involve us – the viewer – in deeply effective, profound, and personal ways. Aaron Schuman is an American artist, writer, editor and curator based in the United Kingdom. His photographic work has been exhibited internationally, and is held in many public and private collections. He is the author of FOLK (NB, 2016), and has contributed texts to a number of books, including Alec Soth: Gathered Leaves (MACK, 2015), Vision Anew (University of California Press, 2015), The Photographer’s Playbook (Aperture, 2014), and Storyteller: The Photographs of Duane Michals (Prestel, 2014), amongst many others.
Schuman regularly contributes to magazine such as Aperture, Frieze, Foam, Hotshoe, TIME, and more. Additionally, Schuman has curated several major exhibitions, including Mixtape(Riga, 2016), In Appropriation (Houston Center for Photography, 2012), Other I: Alec Soth, WassinkLundgren, Viviane Sassen (London, 2011), and Whatever Was Splendid: New American Photographs (FotoFest, 2010). In 2014, Schuman served as Curator of Krakow Photomonth 2014 – entitled Re:Search, the main programme featured major exhibitions by Taryn Simon, Trevor Paglen, Jason Fulford, Clare Strand, Walker Evans & David Campany, Thomas Keenan & Eyal Weizman and others. Schuman is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton and the Arts University Bournemouth, and is the founder and editor of SeeSaw Magazine.
What is photography, really, but a means to communicate and connect? Between the photographer and the subject, between the image and the viewer, from a culture far away to wherever we are, between a moment in the past and now.
Earlier this year, we launched the LensCulture Network with the idea of offering talented, accomplished photographers a place to showcase their work on a global stage while also giving them a place to share, learn and engage with one another. The LensCulture Network began with a small number of hand-picked members, and we are very excited to watch it grow and evolve as new photographers apply and are invited to participate as members.*
One major component of the LensCulture Network are its juried member exhibitions. Guest-curated by the world’s leading photography experts, these regular showcases offer a vibrant platform for LensCulture Network members to share their work and view it in new contexts alongside other members’ photographs. Our first theme, “Connect”, was chosen to celebrate the launching of the LensCulture Network. We hope it marks a first step in the development of a dynamic and interconnected community of world-class photographers.
The inaugural show was curated by Aaron Schuman, an accomplished curator, author, editor and photographer. His selection contains 100 images produced by 42 different photographers, capturing moments and stories from many locations across the planet. We hope you find this group of photographs thought-provoking and inspiring, and we hope this is only the beginning of the conversation and connections among photographers — and between photographers and the rest of us — in different cultures around the world.

“Innanzitutto e per prima cosa, la fotografia è un medium – un mezzo per comunicare osservazioni, trasmettere esperienze e connettere. In un’epoca in cui c’è spesso la preoccupazione che le tecnologie digitali ci stiamo di fatto allontanando dalla realtà, e che ci stiano disconnettendo uno dall’altro, è rimarchevole notare quanto potentemente il medium della fotografia possa essere uno strumento per trascendere il virtuale. Perché la fotografia è contemporaneamente sia comune che fondamentalmente dipendente dal reale – attraverso il tempo, la luce e questioni materiali – anche al suo livello più sperimentale, essa ci concede un’opportunità unica di coinvolgerci direttamente, di enfatizzare, trasmettere e riflettere sulla sfaccettata natura dell’esperienza umana, in tutta la sua diversità e complessità.
La sequenza e selezione di immagini presentate qui, scelte da un’impressionante ampia quantità di partecipanti fatti a LensCulture, rappresenta molti modi in cui ci connettiamo – fisicamente, emotivamente, geneticamente, culturalmente, tecnologicamente, spiritualmente e in altri modi – uno con l’altro attraverso il medium fotografico. Inoltre, quando viste collettivamente, ciò che è davvero impressionante, è che queste connessione non sono soltanto tra i soggetti stessi in quanto interagiscono con la macchina fotografica, o tra il fotografo e il suo soggetto materiale nel momento in cui esegue la fotografia, ma sono capaci di andare oltre il momento catturato e lo stesso atto fotografico, e ci coinvolgono, – lo spettatore – in un modo profondo, effettivo e personale. Collettivamente, CONNECT è un tentativo di raccogliere insieme, disporre, organizzare e interpretare una dinamica profusione di immagini che – nonostante le ampie variazioni soggettiva, concettuali e estetiche – tutte con successo ambiscono a connettere, “a legare, allacciarci, [e] fissarci” insieme”. _ Aaron Schuman _
Aaron Schuman è un artista americano, scrittore, editoreIl suo lavoro fotografico è stato esibito internazionalmente, e fa parte di molte collezioni pubbliche e private. E’ l’autore di FOLK (NB, 2016) e ha contribuito a numerosi libri con i suoi testi, inclusi Alec Soth: Gathered Leaves (MACK, 2015), Vision Anew (University of California Press, 2015), The Photographer’s Playbook (Aperture, 2014), and Storyteller: The Photographs of Duane Michals (Prestel, 2014), tra gli latri.
Schumann regolarmente scrive su riviste come Aperture, Frieze, Foam, Hotshoe, TIME, e molti altri. Inoltre ha curato alcune importanti mostre, tra cui Mixtape(Riga, 2016), In Appropriation (Houston Center for Photography, 2012), Other I: Alec Soth, WassinkLundgren, Viviane Sassen (London, 2011), e Whatever Was Splendid: New American Photographs (FotoFest, 2010). Marettimo was 2nd Place Winner Merit of Excellence of the Sport category at the 9th International Color Awards plus Sorrento #2 had an Honorable Mention in Aerial category ( 1 0f 19 HM).
5,678 entries were received from 78 countries and my work received a high percentage of votes overall. Certainly an achievement, well done!
The Jury represented the industry’s biggest names and tastemakers including Contrasto, Rome; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Whitechapel Gallery, London; DDB, Berlin; Forsman & Bodenfors, Gothenburg; Art Beatus Hong Kong; DB Agency, Milan; InStyle Magazine, New York and Kunst Haus Wien, Vienna who reviewed the entries online before making their nominations and honoring 591 title awards and 634 nominees in 33 categories. The Awards could not have wished for a better group of professionals to work with.
“It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 5,678 entries we received this year,” said Basil O’Brien, the awards Creative Director. “Eleonora Pecorella’s Marettimo, an exceptional image entered in the Sport category, represents contemporary color photography at its finest, and we’re pleased to present her with the title of 2nd place Winner Merit of Excellence.”
“The variety of entries was astonishing,” said juror Lilli Langenheim, Senior Art Director of DDB Berlin. “Some of the work is truly powerful; Fine Art, Sport, Nature in professional was really inspiring and the Wildlife category in amateur was one of the most exciting,” added jury member Daria Bonera, Owner of DB Agency in Milan.

For this special online exhibition organized by Saatchi Art’s Hayley Miner, acclaimed actress and author Jamie Lee Curtis has curated a selection of 16 photographs by emerging artists from around the world.
Aside from being Hollywood royalty with dozens of films under her belt, Jamie is the author of 10 children’s books, an avid collector of photography, and perhaps less publicly known, a photographer of 30 years. She has judged numerous photography shows, and acted as curator for the Frostig Collection’s 2013 photography exhibition, as well as curator for an advance preview of 2015’s Paris Photo Los Angeles.
