[:en]Catholic religion appears to develop a new definition of its own behavioral codes. While ceremonies and architecture are codified to auto-celebrate and reflect the glorious past, when temporal and spiritual powers merged and were part of everyday cleric life and founded their values, today the clergy lives in a strange state of contrast. Contemporary society pressures it to confront with modern questions related with technology, globalization, consumerism, medias, and merchandise, values completely modified in the past 50 years.
The clergy is the natural custodian of tradition and handlers of the past, but today it frantically looks for an up to date, to communicate with believers in a new and effective way. On the brink between the inner need to represent traditions and past authority, and the attempt to modernize in order not to feel marginalized from the contemporary society, following the guidelines dictated by the summit and individually declined, the result is a version of Catholicism that may appears sometimes awkward and funny.
This series aims to explore this ridge-line, the difficult pursuit to harmonize traditions and present times.
Most of these photos where taken in Rome centre of the Catholic religion, seat of the Pope, offices of the Holy See, of St Peter Cathedral and in other pilgrimage sites, where religion interlaces naturally (or unnaturally?) with commerce, tourism, marketing and public life.
[:it]La religione cattolica sembra attraversare un periodo di nuova definizione dei propri canoni comportamentali: mentre i suoi riti e le architetture sono stati codificati in senso auto-celebrativo e riflettono il glorioso passato, in particolare il tempo in cui potere temporale e spirituale erano complementari e perciò fornivano al clero una precisa indicazione dei valori comportamentali di riferimento, oggi il clero vive uno strano stato di contrasto. La società contemporanea lo istiga a confrontarsi con istanze incalzanti come la tecnologia, la globalizzazione, il consumismo, i media, il mercato del merchandising, valori completamente modificatisi negli ultimi cinquant’anni.
Il clero ha una intrinseca natura di custode e responsabile del passato, ma oggi affannosamente cerca di aggiornarsi per comunicare con i propri fedeli in un modo nuovo e efficace. Sul crinale tra l’intrinseco bisogno di rappresentare le tradizioni e l’autorità del passato. e il tentativo di modernizzarsi per non restare marginalizzato nella società contemporanea, seguendo le linee guida dettate dei vertici e poi declinate individualmente.
Il risultato è una versione della religione che può apparire a volte maldestra e buffa.
Lo scopo di questa serie è quello di esplorare questo confine, la difficile ricerca per armonizzare le tradizioni e il il tempo presente.
La maggior parte delle foto sono state scattate a Roma, centro mondiale del religione cattolica, sede ufficiale del Papa, degli uffici della Santa Sede, della Cattedrale di San Pietro e in molti altri famosi luoghi di pellegrinaggio, dove la religione si interseca inesorabilmente e naturalmente (o innaturalmente?) con il commercio, il turismo, il marketing e la vita pubblica.
[:en]Water for all/ No exceptions is the title of World Water Day Photo Contest 2019, a photo contest organized by Lions Club Seregno Aid: funds of this edition, together with those of the former 2 editions, will support projects to bring drinking water to communities who need water to live, through an international cooperation project for water purification in Kenya. I have been invited to be part of the jury ion this contest.
World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was recommended. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day and it has been held annually since then.
Georgina Goodwin, with No Water No Life, a portrait of Amina Suleiman in Somaliland, is the winner of the single themed category, an image that synthesized the terrible drought that hit this area where 80% of the livestock is died and population is on the brink of an unprecedented collapse.
Karla Koegelmann is the winner of the Portfolio category, with the series The Pool focused on synchronized swimming.
Congratulations to all organizers, winners and participants, to be part of this wonderful project which aims to raise awareness and support those in real need of help!
The winning photos and a selection of the best classified will be exhibited at Seregno’s Auditorium and other locations through the year.

[:it]Acqua per tutti / Nessuno escluso è il titolo del World Water Day Photo Contest 2019, un concorso fotografico organizzato dal Lions Club di Seregno Aid, i cui proventi sono destinati alla fornitura di sistemi di potabilizzazione per lo comunità bisognose di acqua per la vita, e in cui sono stata invitata a far parte della giuria.
I fondi raccolti con la terza edizione in aggiunta a quelli delle prime due edizioni saranno devoluti ad un progetto di cooperazione internazionale per la potabilizzazione dell’acqua in Kenya.
La giornata mondiale dell’acqua “World Water Day” è una ricorrenza istituita dalle Nazioni Unite nel 1992, prevista all’interno delle direttive dell’Agenda 21, risultato della Conferenza di Rio. Cade regolarmente ogni 22 marzo.
Georgina Goodwin, con No Water No Life, un ritratto di Amina Suleiman in Somaliland, ha vito il primo premio della categoria foto singola, con un’immagine che sintetizza la gravissima siccità che ha colpito questa zona dove l’80% del bestiame è morto e la popolazione è sull’orlo di una crisi senza precedenti.
Karla Koegelmann ha vinto la categoria Portfolio, con la serie The Pool dedicata al nuoto sincronizzato.
Complimenti agli organizzatori, ai vincitori e a tutti partecipanti per aver preso parte a questo bellissimo progetto di sensibilizzazione e sostegno di coloro che hanno davvero bisogno di aiuto!

Vicky is four and she is slowly going blind. She has been diagnosed with Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) a severe form of degenerative eye disease progressively leading children to blindness by their late teens /early twenties.
We aim to raise £350,000 to fund a three year research project to develop LCA eye condition models from patients own stem cells for testing therapies to potentially slow down the progression of the condition. The project is supported by a partnership between University College London’s Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital and led by Dr Mariya Moosajee, leading consultant ophthalmologist and researcher”
There is real hope that we could save Vicky’s sight and that of many other children.

Help Children See for LongerProceeds from the Eyes on The Future Gala Dinner 2018 aiutaci a sostenere l’indispensabile ricerca contro la Leber Congenital Amaurosis, una rara forma di malattia ereditaria degli occhi che causa la cecità nei bambini. LCA colpisce migliaia nel Regno Unito e e centinaio di migliaia nel mondo, Attualmente questa malattia non ha cure. Il tuo supporto ci aiuterà a finanziare un programma d ricerca di tre anni per rallentare il progredire della malattia e aiutare i bambini a vedere per più tempo.
“Immaginate che vi sia detto che in pochi nannie non potrete più incrociare lo sguardo con i vostri amati o che non potranno ammirare un meraviglioso tramonto rosso sula mare. Vicky ha quattro anni e sta progressivamente divenendo cieca. [:en]A journey 40 images long where 4 different visual and technical ways blend: Angela Di Finizio and Eleonora Pecorella that shoot in colors, Australian Jim Griffith and Turkish Ferhat Celik working in black and white. This encounter has been possible because they share the same interest in reading, understanding and proposing their own interpretation of the present through places and people met while travelling in more or less remote destinations, from the distinctive habits of Japan to the sidereal stretch of Mongolia, from the exotic and colored Vietnam to the more common manner of the western, such as the American or European.
“Photography is a transmission that like a tide rises almost to the Empyrean or plunges down to the hulls and bilges of life. In the first case, photography almost forgets its own material origin and introduces us to pure, disinterested, virginal contemplation. As such, it has the extraordinary cathartic power to shake the mind clear of temporary concerns, facing up to existential misery but able to transcend it.
In the second case photography becomes professional reportage, with its own technical and professional dignity, providing tools to unravel and evaluate the needs, troubles, tangles of life. But around this Manichean divide we have forgotten the intermediate shades between résis, the act of testimony, and escape into the infinite. All these shades are clearly countless, range from the mundane and the celestial. It is up to us to discern and seek what among such a multitude of proposals better suits our nature and aspiration. […]
These four photographers are not a team, sharing the same goals, and this is all to the advantage of their individuality, their respected origins, and their emotional and intellectual ambitions.
What unites them is their professionalism, their pleasure at being surprised by places and people, and their ability to react creatively to the existential impulses built up across time and in the instant, each in a totally personal mode.
Many of these photographs are simply splendid, and we should contemplate the entire corpus with interest and admiration.”

“La fotografia è un relais che, al pari di una marea, si alza fin quasi a librarsi nell’empireo o si immerge senza remore ad esplorare le sentine della vita. Pertanto, nel primo caso, la fotografia quasi si dimentica della propria natura d’origine, e c’introduce alla contemplazione pura, disinteressata, verginale. Questa forma di fotografia possiede un potere catartico eccezionale, libera la mente dalle preoccupazioni contingenti e può affrontare le miserie esistenziali trascendendole. Nel secondo caso, la fotografia si fa reportage, mestiere, con una propria dignità di tecnica e di professionalità, dandoci gli strumenti per districarci e giudicare con correttezza le occorrenze, le traversìe, i grovigli indigesti della vita. Tuttavia, nel dichiararci così manichei abbiamo dimenticato le sfumature intermedie tra la résis, la testimonianza, e la fuga nell’infinito, e codeste sfumature, con tutta evidenza, sono innumerevoli, e coprono ogni intervallo tra il terra-terra e il celestiale. Sta ad ognuno di noi sceverare e cercarsi tra le miriadi di proposte quelle più consentanee con il nostro temperamento e le nostre aspirazioni. […]
I quattro fotografi non formano un’équipe, non perseguono gli stessi obiettivi ed è bene che sia così per la loro individualità, per le origini rispettate, per le ambizioni emotive ed intellettuali. Li accomuna la probità del mestiere, il piacere di lasciarsi sorprendere da luoghi e persone, e la capacità di rispondere creativamente agli stimoli esistenziali accumulati all’istante e nel tempo, ciascuno a suo modo. Molte fotografie sono decisamente splendide, tutto il corpus qui proposto si lascia studiare nel suo insieme con interesse ed ammirazione.”

“As our world becomes increasingly saturated with images, virtually every meaningful moment from birth to death is captured on camera, be it on video, mobile, digital, or film. This abundance of imagery, and the fleeting moments with which we consume it, can cause us to lose sight of the story and the emotions behind each image.
For our annual community show, Behind the Portrait, we asked photographers to submit meaningful portraits accompanied by a short story revealing the narrative behind the portrait. Over 500 images were submitted by photographers based in 35 different countries including many contributions from individuals based here in the UAE and the Middle East. The final selection surveys work from 37 different photographers, combining images with text and video. With each story, the viewer is encouraged to gaze deeper into the life of the subject, and the moment in which it was captured.
The exhibition features the work of 38 photographers, including: Adeolu Osibodu, Aisha Jemila, Altamash Javed, Altamash Urooj, Ayman Khaled, Cheb Moha, Conel van Zyl, Daniele Casciari, Eddie Ryan, Eman Ali, Fabian Muir, Griselda San Martin, Hussain Al Moosawi, Ilaria Di Biagio, Jalal Abuthina, Joan Lobis Brown, Joshua Sariñana, Karen Dias, Katarina Premfors, Lamya Gargash, Laramie Shubber, Maha Alasaker, Martin Beck, Md. [:en]This series of photos is a visual reflection on the actual favorable life expectancy, incredibly increased in the last 100 years, and the pervasive hedonism of our society, which creates a paradoxical situation of non-acceptance of what looks old. This behavior is probably more visible in women, where aging is often denied turning to beauty treatments and plastic surgery.
The utopian will to keep or reach an ideally conceived beauty, leads the subject to enter into a spiral of irreversible processes that generates an effect of alienation till extreme situations, where he/she may not more recognize himself in his/her own body.
Images of this series want to explore this perturbation of the self perception, hidden behind the imperishable smile and unshakable serene look of the Barbies, model of beauty since the Sixties, that matches with old and dried flowers and fruits, which would celebrate the supreme and indisputable beauty of nature, even when it’s aged.
I used a macro lens to create this series.
L’utopistico desiderio di mantenere o raggiungere un ideale di bellezza induce a entrare in una spirale di processi irreversibili che generano un effetto di estraniamento nel soggetto che, in casi estremi, finisce per non riconoscersi più nelle sue forme modificate. Le immagini di questa serie vogliono esplorare questo senso di sconvolgimento della percezione del sé, nascosta dietro al sorriso incorruttibile e allo sguardo sereno inalterabile delle Barbies, mentre l’accostamento con fiori e frutta caduchi, vuole celebrare la suprema e indiscutibile bellezza della natura, anche quando sta per o è già appassita.
Ho usato la lente macro per realizzare questa serie.

[:en]3 of my photos will be exhibited alongside the route at this inaugural edition of a new, outdoor photo festival in Overpelt, Belgium, titled this year Lens op de Mens (Spotlight on the people) opening today.
The main exhibition consists of a 2.5km walk during which you will discover more than 200 pictures made by photographers from all corners of the world.
The festival will run from June 18 till August 31.
Up until the 20 of August you can vote for your favourite photo of the route. The public price / Public Audience Mention will be announced on Sunday the 27 of August during the event “Vlaanderen zingt” (Flanders Sings) taking place in the town square of Overpelt, Oude Markt 2, 3900 Overpelt (Belgium)

I show at THE OTHER ART FAIR LONDON @Victoria House Bloomsbury from March 30 to April 2nd.
Out of over 1000 applications, my work has been selected by a very prestigious committee of art industry experts: Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator and Director, Art Advisory at Saatchi Art and formerly a Director at the Saatchi Gallery, London; Kate Bryan, an arts broadcaster, writing and presenting television programmes for BBC, Sky Arts and Sky Arte Italia; Lulu Guinness, a luxury British accessory brand founded in 1989, when its then 29 year old creative director and founder produced a forward-thinking briefcase for women.
It is with great pleasure that I’ll be part of this great exhibition!
The sixteenth edition of the fair will return to the magnificent Victoria House, a prestigious venue in the heart of Bloomsbury. The 2016 spring edition at Victoria House welcomed 14,000 visitors, so please if you want to attend write me in advance for tickets.

OWN ART SCHEME
An Arts Council intitative, Own Art is a scheme that makes buying contemporary art more accessible for collectors and first time buyers. Own Art offers customers the opportunity to spread the cost of eligible purchases over 10 months with an interest free loan subsided by Arts Council England.
All artists exhibiting at the fair are automatically eligible to use the Own Art Scheme to sell their work.
Visitors to the fair will be able to apply for the scheme onsite (as part of the payment system).

3,070 entries were received from 36 countries (Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, and Venezuela.)
After selecting the finalists and winners in each category, all series shortlisted and awarded in each category were juried together indistinctly of the category, concluding in the granting the overall awards.
The Gala Awards congratulates all photographers that have submitted images to this 9th edition of the Pollux Awards, and specially to those that have been selected among the entries received.

3,070 foto hanno partecipato a questo premio da 36 paesi (Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgio, Brasile, Canada, Cipro, Danimarca, Repubblica Domenicana, Emirati Arabi, Finlandia, Francia, Germania, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israele, Italia, Malaysia, Malta, Messico, Olanda, Nigeria, Norvegia, Polonia, Puerto Rico, Regno Unito, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovacchia, Spagna, Taiwan, Thailandia, Uganda, Stati Uniti e Venezuela).
Dopo la selezione dei finalisti e dei vincitori in ogni categoria, tutte le serie selezionate in ciascuna categoria sono stati giudicati insieme indistintamente per garantire il giudizio finale.

[:en]Associazione Culturale Massenzio Arte opens a new exhibition from September 14 to 24, for the occasion of the I Premio VigiliinArte & XX Rassegna Massenzio Arte. There will be selected works from 13 artists that are part of the National Fire Fighters (Giancarlo Bigioni, Luca Cari, Lorenzo Confalonieri, Giorgio Fiume, Domenica Luppino, Gerardo Marzano, Leopoldo Montesanti, Adriano Nasetti, Gianluca Pasquetti, Duilio Spalletti, Francesco Varesano, Antonio Vico, Cristiana Vittorini) and 8 artists selected from the previous editions of Massenzio Arte Prize (Alessandra Bilotta, Paolo Camiz, Francesca Cataldi, Maria Korporal, Monica Melani, Alessandro Palmigiani, Eleonora Pecorella, Pejman Tadayon).
The opening night will host famous contemporary art people, such as Guido Strazza, Ennio Calabria, Tommaso Cascella, Maurizio Chelucci, Alessandro D’Ercole, Massimo Locci & Carlo Magnelli, who were judges of the past Prize jury between 1995 al 2014.

[:it]L’Associazione Culturale Massenzio Arte è lieta di annunciare che dal 14 al 24 settembre, in occasione del I Premio VigiliinArte e della XX Rassegna Massenzio Arte, saranno esposti i lavori selezionati di tredici artisti appartenenti al Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco (Giancarlo Bigioni, Luca Cari, Lorenzo Confalonieri, Giorgio Fiume, Domenica Luppino, Gerardo Marzano, Leopoldo Montesanti, Adriano Nasetti, Gianluca Pasquetti, Duilio Spalletti, Francesco Varesano, Antonio Vico, Cristiana Vittorini) e otto artisti tra i vincitori dei precedenti Premi Massenzio Arte (Alessandra Bilotta, Paolo Camiz, Francesca Cataldi, Maria Korporal, Monica Melani, Alessandro Palmigiani, Eleonora Pecorella, Pejman Tadayon).
La serata di apertura potrà vantare la presenza di illustri testimoni dell’arte contemporanea, che hanno fatto parte delle giurie dei premi dal 1995 al 2014.
