[:en]my inner path[:it]il mio percorso interiore[:]

[:en]This series aims to represent my inner life and how it’s developed from a chaotic organization into a clearer definition of itself. It was a long and painful path, done into an “apparently” normal life, but it was very hard for me, as I believe it’s for everyone.

In this series I stage as myself in different situations, representing strong inner conflicts arising. Being at the same time the photographer behind the camera and the two characters allows me to represent in the material world the inner space, a place not belonging to it but still existing and real. Part of it has been realized using multiple-exposure technique because I wanted to represent when I felt to be a spectator of my-self, and of my life. When it occurred I experienced a wide range of emotions, from gratitude and compassion (as when I suddenly remembered difficult circumstances in which I had passed through) to shame or judgment (as when I felt the shame about an uncontrolled behaviour or a failure, or the posthumous inflexibility of a self-erotic act).

Another part of the series is made of self-portraits mounted in post-production into a single photo. It was where I wanted to represent when my Ego and its double face one to each other. One of the characters is the socially correct self: scared from others’ judgment, it absolutely doesn’t want to show alterations in its state of mind and minimizes its emotions. It faces a second expression of my Ego, its counter-part represented by a strong emotion that is kept alive by a hidden and continuous thought. Paradoxically the former won’t survive without the last. I live in a strong inner conflict until they don’t meet, often not knowing it. When I allow the antagonistic selves to encounter, I am firstly frightened from the dreadful clash that inevitably happens, then, I slowly accept my inadequacy and fragility. These conflicts represented are depression, huffiness, rage, and sexuality.

In the last work MM another subject appears: it is my mother, the origin of my life and the end of my research. MM is the representation of a conflict between a mother and her daughter, the suffering realization of the absolute puppeteer power that a mother can employ, more or less unwittingly, over her sons.

But not only: at the same time, it’s the suffering process through which we accept to become orphan of our living parents and finally reborn and grow up as son of our consciousness. It’s the painful prelude to the birth of our Inner Mother. While we still live considering every responsibility depended on external causes, we live in the shadow of our parents (alive or imaginary), while when we overturn this perspective, we finally become Mother of our life.

Self-portraits Self-portraits

This series of self-portraits represents a reflection about being. I ask myself what we are and how our appearance is connected to our intimate being, how our social-self interacts with our deeper-self, that one which is rarely or never evident. The couples of portraits show three possible encounters:

the first shows when my intimacy observes itself: both naked, they are represented in the context of the deep intricacy of my inner self, which is always changeable and that you can catch in rare moments of awareness about yourself;

the second couple represents my inner identity naked that observes my social identity;

the third couple represents my inner and social selves seen through public observation. Here the observer meets my dressed social-self and feels that he can completely and totally catches and knows it; at the same time he comes in contact with my inner identity. The observer has an uncertain and wavering knowledge of the second because the nature of your inner-self is relentlessly changing and that is why we cannot ever say to know it conclusively.

Queste coppie di autoritratti compongono una serie di riflessioni sull’essere. Mi chiedo cosa siamo realmente e come la nostra apparenza sia connessa al nostro intimo essere, quale rapporto interconnette il nostro Io-sociale che interagisce con il mondo esterno e il nostro Io-interiore profondo e meno, o mai, manifesto.
Le coppie di ritratti rappresentano questo possibile incontro:

nella prima coppia la mia identità intima osserva la mia stessa intimità, sono entrambe nude, il contesto è quello dei meandri profondi dell’interiorità, sempre mutevoli, ma che soltanto noi stessi siamo in grado di cogliere in momenti di rara lucidità, quando l’intimità indaga se stessa;

nella seconda la mia identità interiore è nuda e scruta la sua controparte sociale;

nella terza coppia l’intimità e l’apparenza si offrono all’osservazione esterna. In quest’ultima composizione, l’osservatore incontra l’identità esteriore vestita e sente di coglierla e conoscerla nella sua completezza e definitezza; contemporaneamente entra in contatto con la mia identità interiore più intima di cui però ha una conoscenza fluida, sfuggente poiché la natura stessa del nostro Io-profondo è il continuo mutamento e per questo passibile di una conoscenza mai definitive.

Another point of viewAnother point of view

Another point of view is an open project of photos and compositions inspired by quantum physics. In the realm of quantum physics, observing something actually influences the physical process that is taking place. Amazed by this information I have compared it to photography, the process where a photographer chooses and selects portions of reality and represents it through his language. What we see in a photo is of course an interpretation of what has been seen. But it is not simply the photographer who affects a representation of the real, everyone who is watching his own reality is effecting on it at the same time. I am collecting a number of photos where I purposely change my point of view shooting from above. I try to reproduce the point of view of a scientist, I imagine to watch people living their everyday life seeing through the lens of a microscope, distributed as electrons in an experiment. I attempt to be like quantum physicists trying to live the paradox of objectively observing life, knowing that I am affecting it at the same time.

I openly want to highlight how much we are used to observe everyday life from a customary point of view, which surely is personal, but it is such a habit that we often forget what we are doing. I would underline how, not only our ideas about existence, but even our forgetfulness about the process of watching, could influence and determine its outcome.

I have titled each composition Distribution to point out how people and things distribute themselves in a space. To raise the viewer’s attention I have tried to compose different and sometimes very distant images that apparently look like fairly similar, where consistency is rather a consequence of their form than content.

Un altro punto di vista è un progetto di foto e composizioni ispirate alla fisica quantistica. Nel regno della fisica quantistica, l’atto di osservare qualche cosa influenza il processo fisico che si sta svolgendo. Stupita da questa informazione, ho fatto un paragone con la fotografia, processo in cui un fotografo sceglie e seleziona porzioni di realtà e le rappresenta attraverso il suo linguaggio. Ciò che vediamo in una foto è certamente un’interpretazione del mondo osservato.

[:en]Water-forms[:it]Le forme dell’acqua[:]

[:en]Water is the power generating forms in this series of photos, whether it is an abstract background for a flying bird, or the element that transforms sturdy building into fainting apparition. Water is a surface to go through, to cross, even to scratch, or, at the opposite, a solid flat surface reflecting images more or less abstract. This is an invitation: after a first moment of possible disorientation, the viewer may restructure forms through tangible clues, it is an encouragement to a mental reorganization of what it doesn’t appear in the representation or that has been transformed by water. Through the thread of his visual sense he might eventually go back to the tangible figure that has generated the image.

[:it]In questa serie di scatti l’acqua è il generatore delle forme, che sia essa lo sfondo astratto del volo di un uccello o l’elemento trasformatore di solide architetture in inconsistenti apparizioni. L’acqua come superficie da percorrere, attraversare, perfino scalfire, o all’opposto, solido piano specchiante immagini che, per via di riflessione, diventano più o meno astratte. Si tratta di un invito affinché, dopo un primo possibile momento di spaesamento, l’osservatore riorganizzi le forme attraverso gli indizi del reale, un’esortazione alla ricomposizione mentale di ciò che non appare direttamente nella rappresentazione o che dall’acqua è stato trasformato, di modo che, attraverso il filo della percezione visiva, risalga verso quelle figure concrete che hanno generato l’immagine.
